Respected Public Service Leader Pens Open Letter to Democratic Legislators Asking Them Not To Support Gavin Newsom For Governor
Jadine Chin Nielsen says Newsom does not have the judgment and character to effectively lead the world’s 6th largest economy and the important efforts to end the culture of sexual harassment afflicting the state house and California politics
San Francisco, CA – In a letter dated April 5, 2018 sent to every Democrat in the California legislature, Asian American Small Business PAC Chair Jadine Chin Nielsen urges them not to support Gavin Newsom for governor.
Ms. Nielsen is California native who has distinguished herself in a broad range of civic, community and political endeavors.
Ms. Nielsen began her career with U.S. Senator Alan Cranston where she served as his California State Director managing the Senator’s political and public policy initiatives, supervising statewide field operations and leading efforts to provide for and respond to constituent concerns. She continued her public service as Deputy Mayor for the City of Los Angeles in charge of community outreach and legislative and executive services. Ms. Nielsen was the first Asian American to serve as Deputy Mayor of Los Angeles.
Ms. Nielsen worked in the federal government in several positions, including in the White House, as Chief of Staff at the U.S. Small Business Administration and as Deputy to the Chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). Ms. Nielsen served as White House Liaison at both agencies, and was a member of the first Interagency Working Group for the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.
Ms. Nielsen compliments her political and policy knowledge with campaign experience at all levels of governance. In California, she was campaign manager for Mayor Richard Riordan in Los Angeles, Northern California Campaign Manager for the Clinton for President Primary Campaign, California Director of Scheduling and Advance for the Clinton-Gore Campaign, and Political Consultant to Kathleen Connell and Jane Harman in their campaigns for State Controller and the U.S. House of Representatives, respectively. In Hawaii, she served as Senior Advisor to Mazie Hirono’s gubernatorial and Congressional campaigns.
Ms. Nielsen chairs both the Asian American Small Business Political Action Committee in California, and the Patsy T. Mink Political Action Committee in Hawaii. She has served as a member of the Honolulu Commission on the Status of Women and the Hawaii Small Business Administration’s Advisory Committee.
